Roles and ResponsibilitiesJob Purpose
The Commercial Manager will be responsible for overseeing the commercial, contractual, and financial performance of engineering projects. The role requires strong Quantity Surveying (QS) experience, sound contractual knowledge, and a solid understanding of NEC and FIDIC contracts, ensuring projects are delivered profitably, compliantly, and with controlled risk.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial & Financial Management
- Overall commercial management of projects from tender through to final account
- Cost planning, forecasting, and budget control
- Monitoring project profitability and cash flow
- Managing valuations, variations, claims, and final accounts
- Preparing and reviewing financial and commercial reportsContracts & Risk Management
- Drafting, reviewing, and administering contracts
- Ensuring compliance with NEC and FIDIC contract frameworks
- Managing contractual risks, claims, and dispute resolution
- Advising project teams on contractual obligations and entitlements
- Managing correspondence and contractual noticesQuantity Surveying
- Measurement, cost estimation, and bill of quantities oversight
- Evaluating subcontractor and supplier quotations
- Managing subcontractor agreements and payments
- Supporting tender preparation and adjudicationStakeholder & Team Collaboration
- Liaising with clients, engineers, consultants, and subcontractors
- Supporting project managers with commercial guidance
Minimum Requirements
- Relevant Quantity Surveying qualification (Degree or Diploma)
- Proven experience as a Commercial Manager or Senior QS
- Strong working knowledge of NEC and FIDIC contracts (essential)
- Experience within engineering / construction projects
- Solid understanding of contract law and commercial risk
- Strong financial acumen and analytical skills
- Proficiency in MS Excel and relevant commercial systems
