Roles and ResponsibilitiesProject Manager (Steel Structures / Engineering)
Job Purpose
The Project Manager will be responsible for the end-to-end management of steel engineering projects from contract award through to completion. The role requires hands-on experience on the contractor side within the steel industry, strong planning and coordination skills, and proficiency in MS Projects to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to specification.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Execution
- Manage projects from initiation to handover
- Develop, maintain, and track project programmes using MS Projects
- Coordinate fabrication, logistics, erection, and subcontractors
- Ensure adherence to project timelines, scope, and deliverablesContractor-Side Project Management
- Act as the main point of contact between site, fabrication, and clients
- Manage contractors and subcontractors on-site
- Monitor progress against programme and resolve delays
- Oversee site activities, quality control, and complianceSteel Industry Focus
- Manage projects involving structural steel fabrication and erection
- Understand steel detailing, fabrication processes, and erection methodologies
- Coordinate with engineers, detailers, and workshop teams
- Ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and standardsCost, Quality & Risk Management
- Monitor project costs and support cost control measures
- Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies
- Ensure quality standards and safety regulations are met
- Support claims, variations, and change managementReporting & Communication
- Prepare and present regular project progress reports
- Maintain accurate project documentation
- Communicate effectively with clients, consultants, and internal teams
Minimum Requirements
- Proven experience as a Project Manager
- Steel industry experience (fabrication and erection) essential
- Strong working knowledge of MS Projects
- Relevant qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, or similar
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Solid understanding of site safety and quality standards
