Position Overview

P2P Arfrica is working with a major Mining Company in seeking a seasoned Project Manager to lead the execution and completion of critical mining infrastructure projects. You will be responsible for the full project lifecycle from feasibility studies to construction and final commissioning adhering strictly to the Project Execution Management System (PEMS).

As the Legal Appointee (3.1a MHSA) , you will hold a pivotal role in ensuring health, safety, and environmental excellence across all appointed sites. You will lead a comprehensive owners’ team, including project engineers, cost controllers, and safety officers, to deliver high-priority gold and uranium-related infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Leadership & Execution: Lead project planning sessions, manage study consultants, and adapt work streams to ensure all projects (Mispah 1, Great Noligwa, Doornkop, and Kalgold) meet strict deadlines and milestones.

  • Operational Management: Oversee the construction of reclamation pump stations, water distribution systems, and overland piping. Manage sectional commissioning scheduled between April and October 2026.

  • Financial & Procurement Oversight: Initiate procurement processes, manage budgets, approve invoices, and provide accurate financial forecasting and resource allocation.

  • Governance & Reporting: Develop all project governance documents. Deliver high-level status reports and performance metrics to senior management, Steercoms, and the Board.

  • Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary liaison between clients, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and project success.

Health, Safety & Legal Duties (MHSA 3.1a)

  • Legal Accountability: Carry the 3.1(a) legal appointment as per the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA).

  • Safety Oversight: Approve safety files, issue "permission to work" permits, and ensure total SHERQ compliance.

  • Inspections & Investigations: Facilitate accident investigations and attend monthly safety inspections and committee meetings.

  • Certification: PMP (Project Management Professional) or an equivalent recognized project management qualification.

  • Legal: Must be eligible and qualified to hold a 3.1(a) MHSA legal appointment .

  • Industry Experience: 5 – 8 years of project management experience, specifically within the Gold, Uranium, or Industrial sectors.

  • Project Lifecycle: Proven track record in managing both feasibility studies and active construction/execution phases.

  • Software Proficiency: Advanced skills in project management software (e.g., MS Project, PPO) and the MS Office Suite.

  • Leadership: Ability to manage a diverse team of specialists (Cost Controllers, QS, Clerk of Works, etc.).

  • Financial Acumen: Strong expertise in budget management, financial analysis, and cost control.

  • Risk Management: Advanced ability to identify, mitigate, and manage project and safety risks.

  • Communication: Exceptional presentation skills for reporting at Board and Steering Committee levels.

  • Previous experience as a legal appointee ( 2.13.1 Engineer or 3.1a Employer Representative ).

  • Specific experience with water treatment plant (WTP) construction or tailings reclamation.

Education & Qualifications

  • Degree: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (B.Eng/B.Sc/B.Tech).

  • Certification: PMP (Project Management Professional) or an equivalent recognized project management qualification.

  • Legal: Must be eligible and qualified to hold a 3.1(a) MHSA legal appointment .

Experience

  • Industry Experience: 5 – 8 years of project management experience, specifically within the Gold, Uranium, or Industrial sectors.

  • Project Lifecycle: Proven track record in managing both feasibility studies and active construction/execution phases.
