A specialist public sector consulting firm, known for its multidisciplinary approach and use of advanced technology, is seeking a highly experienced Principal Accountant to take ownership of complex, high-value government and municipal finance engagements.This role is suited to a seasoned public sector professional with deep technical expertise, strong leadership capability, and the credibility to operate at a senior advisory level.
You will function at a strategic and consultative level, leading public sector financial engagements, ensuring regulatory compliance, and guiding both clients and project teams through complex financial and legislative environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and deliver high-impact public sector finance projects
- Provide expert advisory support on GRAP, PFMA, and municipal finance
- Oversee complex financial reporting and audit engagements
- Advise senior stakeholders and executive-level clients
- Mentor, review, and guide the work of senior and junior finance professionals
- Ensure consistent quality, compliance, and delivery across all engagements
Experience & Qualifications:
- CA(SA) qualification (non-negotiable)
- 10+ years accounting experience with significant public sector exposure
- Extensive expertise in GRAP, PFMA, and government/municipal finance
- Proven leadership, advisory, and stakeholder management capability
- Comfortable operating at a strategic, consultative level
- Willingness to travel as required
