Minimum requirements for the role:
Must have a bachelors degree (or higher) in Animal Nutrition, Animal Science, Veterinary Science, or an equivalent qualification from an accredited institution Must be registered with SACNASP (South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions) in a relevant category or be eligible for registration in a relevant category and willing to obtain such registration within an agreed period after appointment, not exceeding six months Minimum 7+ years experience in animal nutrition, feed formulation, or related roles Experience with specific species is an advantage (Dairy, Beef) Strong knowledge of animal nutritional requirements and feed ingredients is essential Must have experience with feed formulation software (NDS // AMTS // Allix // Excel) Ability to analyze performance, laboratory results, supply practical solutions A self-starter with excellent time management skills Fluent in Afrikaans and English both written and verbal Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines Must have a valid drivers license and be willing to travel when required
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Developing and optimizing feed formulations for all species, including dairy, beef, sheep and goats, poultry, swine, and game. Ensuring diets are meeting nutritional requirements while optimizing cost-effectiveness. Adjusting formulations based on on-farm raw material availability, quality, and price fluctuations. Conducting nutritional trials where necessary and analyzing performance data, including growth, feed conversion, and health outcomes. Evaluating new raw materials, additives, and supplements. Staying updated on scientific literature, regulations, and emerging nutritional technologies. Providing nutritional advice to customers, production teams, and sales staff. Troubleshooting feeding, health, or performance issues related to nutrition. Preparing technical reports, feeding guidelines, and product documentation. Ensuring compliance with local and international feed and food safety regulations. Supporting quality control processes for raw materials and finished feeds. Collaborating with regulatory and quality assurance teams when required. Working closely with veterinarians, production managers, and commercial teams. Supporting product launches and customer and internal staff training sessions. Presenting technical findings clearly to both scientific and non-scientific audiences.
