We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and experienced Metal Fabrication Estimator to join our team. The successful candidate will be the critical link between the client's design and our production floor, ensuring we secure profitable projects through accurate and competitive bidding across all our material streams.
Key Responsibilities
Cost Estimation: Prepare accurate, competitive, and timely estimates for fabrication projects involving mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminium. Process Analysis: Calculate costs for various manufacturing processes, including laser cutting time, CNC bending complexity, welding labour hours, surface finishing, and assembly. Material Take-off: Conduct detailed and accurate material quantity take-offs from technical drawings, including consideration for yield and waste across sheet, plate, and structural profiles. Supplier Management: Source, negotiate, and establish pricing with vendors for raw materials and outsourced processes (e.g., powder coating, galvanizing). Technical Interpretation: Thoroughly review and interpret blueprints, technical specifications, and 3D models to identify potential fabrication challenges and suggest value engineering solutions. Collaboration: Work closely with Project Managers and the Workshop Foreman to ensure estimates align with shop capabilities and efficient production methods. Bid Management: Prepare comprehensive tender documentation and liaise with clients regarding estimate clarifications and revisions.Required Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of verifiable estimating experience within a metal fabrication environment. Multi-Material Expertise: Must have specific experience estimating projects involving all three core materials: Mild Steel, Stainless Steel, and Aluminium. Drawing Proficiency: Expert proficiency in reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings, including geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). CAD/3D Software: Essential: Basic proficiency and experience utilizing CAD/3D software (e.g., SolidWorks or equivalent) for quick material quantification and model review. Software Skills: Demonstrated ability to use relevant software for take-offs and costing (e.g. ERP/estimating platforms and MS Excel). Technical Knowledge: Strong technical understanding of welding procedures (TIG, MIG), laser cutting capabilities, and CNC press brake operations.What We Offer
