Description:
Key ResponsibilitiesPreventative & Corrective Maintenance Plan and execute all preventative maintenance schedules (OEM and in-house standards) Authorise corrective repairs for breakdowns, faults, and inspections Track repeat failures and investigate root causes for critical mechanical issues Workshop Execution Management
Monitor workload allocation and daily throughput of the workshop floor Supervise vehicle turnaround time for all job cards and prioritise critical assets Enforce repair quality standards and maintain job card discipline Parts & Inventory Control
Manage stores inventory for fast-moving and critical spare parts Validate all parts issues, returns, and stock adjustments Coordinate with procurement for stock levels and supplier SLAs Compliance, SHEQ & Legal Readiness
Ensure vehicle roadworthiness certificates, brake tests, and licence renewals are up to date Maintain workshop SHEQ compliance: oil handling, PPE, hazardous materials, fire compliance Prepare workshop for audits, COID cases, and insurance inspections Cost & Performance Monitoring
Track workshop cost per repair, labour efficiency, and parts usage rates Monitor vehicle downtime and submit RCA reports for prolonged outages Provide weekly repair logs, performance stats, and cost summaries to RGM
Qualifications:
National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Automotive Technology Red Seal or Trade Test: Diesel Mechanic (mandatory) SHEQ, Workshop Safety, and Inventory Control certifications preferred Experience:
610 years in fleet maintenance, 3+ in supervisory or manager role Familiar with heavy commercial vehicles and secondary distribution fleet maintenance WMS/Maintenance Software (e.g., SAM, FleetOps, SAP PM) Core Competencies:
Technical diagnostics and repair scheduling Workshop floor supervision and labour planning Inventory and stores management IR experience with artisan and workshop bargaining staff
