Job Description: Investment Analyst
A leading asset management firm is seeking a highly quantitative Investment Analyst to join their team in Cape Town. This role offers the opportunity to work directly with a UK-based Investment Strategist and Portfolio Manager to drive the firm's strategic investment and portfolio construction processes. The successful candidate will progressively take ownership of core research, modelling, and asset allocation responsibilities as they demonstrate competence within the role.
Core Responsibilities
The Investment Analyst is responsible for the development and maintenance of the analytical frameworks that inform investment decisions. Key duties include:
Asset Valuation & Research: Building and enhancing valuation models for various asset classes and conducting research on macroeconomic themes to produce structured insights for investment decisions.
Portfolio Construction: Developing and refining strategic benchmarks, model portfolios, and optimization tools to support tactical and strategic asset allocation decisions.
Quantitative Modelling: Creating scenario frameworks, performing back-testing, and conducting projections to inform asset allocation assessments.
Monitoring & Reporting: Ensuring portfolios align with strategic views and risk budgets while contributing to monthly and quarterly investment reporting and commentary.
Collaboration: Working across teams with advisors and external managers to communicate modelling outputs and strategic recommendations clearly and proactively.

Qualifications and Experience:
A Bachelors or Honours degree in a quantitative field such as Actuarial Science, Quantitative Finance, Mathematical Statistics, or Applied Mathematics.
A minimum of 5 years experience in investments, actuarial modelling, quantitative research, or multi-asset investment processes.
Actuarial progress (FIA/FASA) or postgraduate quantitative studies are considered advantageous.
Technical Skills:
Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in at least one analytical programming language, such as Python, R, or MATLAB.
Familiarity with investment data platforms like Bloomberg is beneficial.
An understanding of how AI and machine learning can be leveraged to enhance research, automation, and analytical workflows within investment processes.
