A well-established citrus farm is seeking a detail-oriented and commercially minded Accountant to manage the full financial function of the farming operation. The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of agricultural cost structures, stock control, and financial reporting within a production-driven environment.Key Responsibilities
-Manage the full accounting function of the farm -Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports -Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management -Monitor and report on production costs -Manage debtors and creditors, including export-related transactions -Reconcile bank accounts and control accounts -Oversee payroll processing and statutory submissions -Ensure compliance with SARS, VAT, PAYE, and other statutory requirements -Maintain fixed asset register -Assist with audit preparation and liaise with external auditors -Monitor inventory, packhouse costs, and stock movement -Provide financial insights to improve operational efficiency and profitabilityMinimum Requirements -BCom Accounting or relevant qualification -3–5 years’ experience in a similar role (agriculture/farming experience advantageous) -Strong understanding of cost accounting in a production environment -Experience with accounting software (e.g. Pastel, Xero, Sage, or similar) -Advanced Excel skills -Knowledge of VAT treatment specific to farming operations -Strong analytical and problem-solving skills -High level of accuracy and attention to detail -Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
