Description:
JOB TITLE: Mid-Level Registered Accountant is responsible for accurate financial reporting, cost control, compliance, and financial decision support in a high-volume, time-sensitive freight forwarding environment. The role requires strong analytical ability, critical thinking, and the ability to operate under pressure while supporting operational and strategic financial decisions.
1. Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Reporting
Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports
Perform journal entries, accruals, provisions, and reconciliations
Ensure accurate revenue recognition aligned with freight movements
Maintain general ledger integrity
Assist with year-end financial statements and audit processes
Daily bank reconciliations
Debtor and creditor management
Creditor & Debtor applications and handover
Compliance & Controls
Ensure compliance with IFRS, tax legislation, and company policies
Assist with VAT, PAYE, and statutory submissions
Maintain strong internal controls over financial processes
Operations & Business Support
Work closely with operations and freight teams to resolve financial queries
Provide real-time financial insights to support decision-making
Support system improvements and financial process optimization
Assist with implementation of new systems or automation tools
2. Work Environment
Fast-paced, deadline-driven operational environment
High transaction volumes across multiple cost centers
Frequent interaction with operations, logistics, clearing, and management teams
Requires quick decision-making based on incomplete or evolving information.
Exposure to foreign currencies, freight costs, customs charges, and third-party suppliers
3. Required skills & Competencies
Technical skills
Strong financial accounting and reporting skills
Advanced Excel proficiency
Experience with accounting software (Cargo Wise preferred but not essential)
Solid understanding of VAT and logistics-related costing
Critical thinking competencies
High level of analytical and problem-solving ability
Strong attention to detail under pressure
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines
Resilient, adaptable, and proactive
Excellent communication skills
4. Minimum Requirements
BCom Degree (Accounting / Financial Accounting)
Registered Accountant (e.g. SAIPA / SAICA advantageous
Own reliable transport
Experience
Minimum 5 years accounting experience
Experience in freight forwarding, logistics, transport, or supply chain preferred
Exposure to high-volume transactional environments
Bilingual in Afrikaans & English
