Job PurposeTo deliver safe, informative, and unforgettable wildlife experiences for guests by leading game drives, bush walks, and interpretive activities while supporting conservation, safety, and hospitality operations. Key Responsibilities Guiding & Guest EngagementConduct daily guided game drives and walking safaris.Share expert knowledge on fauna, flora, ecosystems, tracking, and conservation.Tailor safari experiences to guest interests (photography, birding, family groups).Ensure guests’ safety, comfort, and enjoyment at all times. Operational & Conservation SupportPerform vehicle and equipment checks and ensure maintenance.Assist with reserve management tasks (monitoring, game counts, veld maintenance).Support conservation and ethical wildlife practices. Administrative DutiesMaintain accurate guiding reports and sighting logs.Communicate with lodge staff for scheduling, safety, and guest logistics. Professional ConductUphold high standards of professionalism, punctuality, and guest service.Represent the lodge or reserve positively to all guests and partners. Minimum QualificationsGrade 12 (Matric) or equivalent is often required.FGASA qualification — typically Level 1 (basic guide) and often higher (Level 2/3, Trails Guide) for senior roles.Valid Code 8 South African driver’s licence + PDP (Professional Driving Permit).First Aid certificate (Wilderness/basic).DEAT/CATHSSETA/NDT registration (required by many lodges). Additional / Preferred QualificationsAdvanced Rifle Handling (ARH) and firearm competency, especially in Big Five reserves.Trail Guide qualification for walking safaris.Tracker courses (e.g., Cybertracker Track & Sign).Previous experience in luxury lodge guiding.
