Key Responsibilities & Duties
Commissioning Planning & Execution
Develop and manage detailed commissioning plans, schedules, and procedures Coordinate commissioning activities across EPC teams, OEMs, utilities, and clients Define commissioning sequences, test protocols, and acceptance criteriaElectrical, MV & HV Commissioning
Oversee commissioning of: MV & HV switchgear Transformers Inverters and balance-of-plant systems Protection relays and settings SCADA and control plant systems Review, witness, and approve test results and commissioning documentationHigh Voltage Safety & Authorisation
Act as HV Responsible Person / ORHVS holder Control HV permits, isolation, switching, and energisation Ensure full compliance with HV regulations, site safety rules, and grid requirementsGrid Compliance & Utility Interface
Manage grid compliance testing and utility witness testing Liaise with Eskom / municipal utilities / IPPs Resolve non-compliances and technical issues affecting energisation or CODLeadership & Coordination
Lead and supervise commissioning engineers, technicians, and subcontractors Coordinate OEM representatives and specialist testing teams Provide clear technical direction and decision-making during commissioningHandover to O&M
Manage commissioning close-out and punch list resolution Compile and review final test reports and as-built documentation Ensure smooth handover to Operations & Maintenance teamsRequired Qualifications & Licences
Mandatory:
Qualified Electrician (Trade Tested – Red Seal preferred) ORHVS – Operating Regulations for High Voltage Systems Proven experience with MV & HV switchgear Proven Solar PV commissioning experience on utility-scale plantsPreferred:
National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Power, or Mechatronics Engineering OEM commissioning training (inverters, protection relays, switchgear) Grid code / grid compliance experience SCADA and control systems exposureExperience Requirements
Minimum 5–10 years electrical experience Minimum 3–5 years in a commissioning role within renewable energy Demonstrated experience in: Solar PV plant energisation Grid-connected MV/HV infrastructure Utility or IPP environmentsSEND CV ASAP: chanelbadenhorst@outlook.com cell:0720213084
