Description:

The Accountant is responsible for performing core corporate accounting functions. The role focuses on debtor management, cashbook oversight, month-end accounting, reconciliations, statutory compliance, and financial reporting. The Accountant supports accurate financial records, compliance with regulatory requirements, and timely reporting to management.

Key Responsibilities

Invoicing, Debtors & Customer Account Management
Manage the full debtor cycle, including invoicing, customer statements, and query resolution
Raise client invoices accurately against the correct revenue account and legal
entity
Distribute client statements timeously to correct recipients
Process approved credit notes
Maintain accurate customer account records
Complete client questionnaires and application forms
Authenticate billing data and ensure accuracy before invoicing
Ensure correct VAT treatment on all invoices
Prepare invoice summaries for business units
Perform accurate debtor and revenue reconciliations within agreed timelines
Perform month-end invoicing procedures and ensure reports balance before
period close
Assist with automation of the revenue and customer cycle
Issue annual escalation letters
Balance invoice control accounts to Xero
Obtain and calculate withholding tax certificates where applicable

Corporate Accounting Functions
Oversee and perform core accounting functions for the group of companies
Ensure daily cashbook reconciliations are completed and up to date
Update and maintain the Fixed Asset Register monthly
Capture accurate journal entries for reporting and AFS purposes, including:
o Bad debt provisions
o Intercompany loan journals and reconciliations
o Commissions and provisions
o Prepayments and prepaid income
Prepare and review monthly balance sheet reconciliations
Prepare and review trial balances for monthly reporting
Balance intercompany loan accounts
Consolidate multiple company ledgers for group reporting
Perform VAT reconciliations

Controls & Statutory Compliance
Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, including:
o VAT
o Employment taxes (EMP201 submissions, UIF declarations)
o Dividend withholding tax
Maintain up-to-date tax clearance certificates
Support administration of PI and D&O insurance
Prepare and submit statutory returns, including:
Compensation Commissioner
BEE-related submissions


Reporting & Financial Management Support
Assist the CFO with preparation of the annual budget
Prepare variance analysis between actual and budgeted figures
Assist with monthly management reporting
Support the annual financial audit and ensure readiness of audit
