This is a critical role for a senior agricultural economist or market strategist who thrives at the intersection of agricultural markets, global economics, and commodity trading . The position plays a key role in identifying market risks and opportunities, shaping trading strategies, and supporting data-driven decision-making to protect profitability and sustain market leadership.
Key responsibilities:
Market analysis & risk insight

Analyse global and local agricultural markets, including supply, demand, pricing trends, and emerging opportunities

Assess macroeconomic, geopolitical, climate, and policy factors influencing agricultural and commodity markets

Identify, quantify, and communicate risks and opportunities within trading environments

Track economic, weather, and production indicators impacting commodity cycles
Strategy, forecasting & value creation

Develop market outlooks and forecasts to support trading strategies and long-term planning
-
Advise on strategic opportunities across the agricultural value chain, from farm-level production through to end markets
-
Evaluate investment opportunities, including participation in or acquisition of value-chain businesses and agri-focused ventures

Support profitability optimisation through informed market positioning and timing
Stakeholder engagement

Partner closely with senior leadership, traders, and commercial teams to align economic insights with business and trading strategies

Present complex market analysis in a clear, actionable way to executive and operational stakeholders
Policy & regulatory insight

Monitor global and local agricultural policy, regulation, and legislative developments

Assess potential impacts on trading activity and recommend mitigation or optimisation strategies
Required Skills

BCom degree (or higher) in Agricultural Economics, Economics, or a related discipline

Minimum 8 years' experience within agricultural markets, commodity trading, or a closely related environment

Strong exposure to international agricultural and trading markets

Advanced analytical, quantitative, and forecasting capability

Deep understanding of agricultural market dynamics, trading structures, and risk management

Confident communicator with the ability to influence senior stakeholders
