Purpose of the Role
The Registered Nurse – ICU Trained provides specialized nursing care to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit. The role ensures safe, evidence-based practice, effective monitoring, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
🩺 Key Responsibilities
• Clinical Care
• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients requiring intensive monitoring and support.
• Operate and manage advanced medical equipment (ventilators, infusion pumps, monitors).
• Administer medications and therapies in line with ICU protocols.
• Conduct patient assessments and respond to emergencies promptly.
• Patient & Family Support
• Provide clear communication and emotional support to patients and families.
• Educate families on patient conditions, treatment plans, and recovery processes.
• Team Collaboration
• Work closely with physicians, anaesthetists, and allied health professionals.
• Participate in handovers, case discussions, and multidisciplinary rounds.
• Operational Support
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
• Ensure adherence to infection control and safety standards.
• Contribute to audits, risk assessments, and quality improvement initiatives.
Requirements:
📋 Qualifications & Experience
• Registered Nurse (RN) with valid registration at the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
• Post-basic qualification in Critical Care Nursing / ICU Nursing.
• Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in an ICU environment.
• Advanced Life Support (ALS) or equivalent certification (advantageous).
