Purpose
As a Prepress technician you will be responsible for preparing files for printing. This includes pre-flighting, performing quality control checks and converting files to the proper format for the printing process.
Focus Areas:
Prepress technicians must have a keen eye for detail to catch errors that could lead to a poor final product. They must also be familiar with various file formats and how to convert them for use in the printing process. Pre-Press technicians play a vital role in the printing process by ensuring that the press runs smoothly. The final product could be of poor quality without their attention to detail.Key performance areas
Processes printing jobs Formats and corrects any errors found Checks the job specifications are right Works together with the designers and customers Makes plates if necessary Creates electronic versions of the pages to be printed (digital printing) Emails proofs to customers for checking Graphic design an added advantageEssential and Mandatory Requirements
National Senior Certificate/ Matric Computer literacy 3 5 years experience required. Imposition/Printing Qualification Must be able to work shifts and over time when required Understand different printing impositions and finishing procedures Completed apprenticeship trade textPreferred skills and experience
Computer literacy in both Mac/PC Colour management knowledge knowledge of imposition software Aqueous, Flat-worker and Pitstop Printing experience Graphic design experience is an advantage.
