The successful incumbent will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical equipment and systems within the utilities department. This includes centrifugal pumps, compressors, piping systems, and other critical infrastructure used in the production and distribution of utility services such as boilers, water, steam, gas, and wastewater.

Job Specification:

Key Performance Areas:

  • Install, align, and maintain utility-related mechanical equipment, including centrifugal and positive displacement pumps, a wide range of industrial valves (gate, globe, butterfly, check, and control valves), gearboxes, compressors, blowers, cooling tower fans, and mechanical systems supporting steam, water, air, RO, and effluent operations.

 Conduct comprehensive preventive and corrective maintenance on utilities infrastructure such as steam generation and distribution systems, condensate return networks, compressed air systems, cooling water systems, reverse osmosis (RO) water treatment units, and effluent treatment plant (ETP) equipment to ensure uninterrupted plant operation.

 Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical failures in pumps, boiler auxiliaries, steam traps, pressure control stations, RO membranes, dosing systems, and ETP machinery; perform detailed root cause analysis and implement long-term corrective actions to minimize downtime.

 Interpret and work from mechanical drawings, P&IDs, utility diagrams, schematics, and blueprints to plan installations, identify correct piping routes, select appropriate valves, and ensure proper equipment alignment and commissioning.

 Disassemble, inspect, and reassemble mechanical equipment including multistage pumps, valve assemblies, gearboxes, mechanical seals, and boiler-related components such as feedwater pumps, ID/FD fan drives, and ash-handling equipment.

 Perform welding, pipefitting, and mechanical fabrication tasks, including steam and condensate piping modifications, installation of supports and brackets, fabrication of utility pipelines, and repairs within RO, ETP, and boiler systems.

 Maintain accurate maintenance records and equipment history via Shopware or other CMMS platforms, documenting inspections, repairs, part replacements, and preventive maintenance activities.

 Comply strictly with all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space entry for tanks and ETP units, hot work permits, and hazard identification—especially when working around high-pressure steam systems, rotating equipment, and chemical treatment areas.

 Collaborate closely with electricians, instrumentation technicians, and process operators to support reliable operation of all utility equipment during startups, shutdowns, troubleshooting events, and routine maintenance.

 Operate, monitor, and support maintenance of core utility systems, including:

  • Coal-fired boilers: assist with burner maintenance, stoker and fuel-feed systems, soot blowing, draught systems, ash-handling, and steam generation performance checks.
  • Steam production and distribution: inspect and maintain steam traps, PRVs, condensate pumps, deaerators, and piping networks to ensure efficient steam delivery and heat recovery.
  • Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant: monitor membrane condition, perform CIP procedures, maintain high-pressure pumps, pre-treatment units, and ensure water quality standards.
  • Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP): maintain clarifiers, aerators, chemical dosing equipment, sludge pumps, and filtration systems to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Generators and power support systems: service cooling, lubrication, and fuel systems associated with generator operation.

Minimum Requirements:
