Description:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Inventory / Stores Manager to manage all spare parts, tools, consumables, and materials within a busy maintenance workshop. The successful candidate will ensure optimal stock levels, accurate inventory control, and efficient supply chain coordination to support uninterrupted maintenance operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Workshop & Site Inventory Management: Manage daily operations of the central workshop stores and coordinate stock availability for remote client sites (Chrome Mining, Fertilizer, and Waste sites).
- HME Spares Procurement: Execute procurement and cost management for heavy mobile equipment (EME) spares, tools, and specialized lubricants.
- Critical Spares Availability: Maintain accurate records and ensure 100% availability of critical components to minimize downtime during breakdowns or scheduled maintenance.
- Corrosion & Environment Control: Implement specialized storage, labeling, and preservation techniques for parts, specifically protecting inventory against corrosive fertilizer and landfill environments.
- Service Exchange (Core) Management: Oversee the tracking, labeling, and return of high-value service exchange units (engines, hydraulic pumps, transmissions) to suppliers for credit.
- Inventory Optimization: Establish and monitor minimum/maximum stock levels and reorder points based on equipment duty cycles and site-specific needs.
- Stock Integrity & Audits: Conduct regular physical stock counts, audits, and reconciliations to ensure system accuracy within the ERP/CMMS.
- Supplier & Logistics Liaison: Coordinate with suppliers for timely delivery and manage the logistics of moving materials from the Vereeniging hub to various client sites.
- Slow-Moving & Obsolete Stock: Actively monitor and report on slow-moving or obsolete inventory to prevent capital tie-up.
- Safety & Mine Compliance: Ensure all stores operations comply with company safety standards, housekeeping requirements, and site-specific mining safety files.
- Operational Reporting: Provide the Maintenance Workshop Manager and Operations Manager with detailed inventory data, usage reports, and cost-analysis trends.l

Diploma or Certificate in Supply Chain Management, Inventory Management, or related field. Diesel/Motor Mechanic background is an added advantage.
Minimum 3 years’ experience in inventory or stores management within a maintenance workshop, mining, construction, fleet, or industrial environment
Strong knowledge of spare parts for mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
Experience with inventory management systems (ERP / CMMS)
Good computer skills (MS Excel, inventory software)
Added Advantage
Experience in mining, construction, or heavy mobile equipment environments
Diesel Mechanic or Motor Mechanic expertise
Knowledge of CMMS systems and maintenance planning processes
