Job Specification: Plastic Injection Mould ToolmakerLocation: Cape Town, Southern SuburbsSalary : R200ph (Neg.)Role OverviewThe Plastic Injection Mould Toolmaker is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and optimal performance of plastic injection and blow moulding tools. The role focuses on minimising mould downtime, ensuring production readiness, and maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and housekeeping. Key ResponsibilitiesInjection Moulding (IM)
- Support the injection moulding process where plastic is melted and injected under high pressure into mould cavities.
- Maintain and service moulds used to manufacture solid, complex plastic components (e.g. automotive parts, electronic components, caps, consumer products).
- Maintain and repair moulds used in blow moulding processes for hollow plastic products (e.g. containers, drums, large jugs).
- Perform preventative maintenance on moulds in line with the maintenance schedule.
- Inspect mould condition and report on wear, defects, and required replacement parts.
- Repair moulds and fit replacement parts and spares.
- Strip and repair plastic injection systems.
- Service and repair hot runner systems, including replacement of faulty or damaged electrical components.
- Complete production readiness checks, including:
- Water leak testing
- Heater and thermocouple (TC) testing
- Ensure moulds operate optimally, with all slideways and moving parts correctly lubricated.
- Minimise mould downtime through efficient fault-finding and repairs.
- Complete daily administrative and maintenance records.
- Adhere 100% to planned preventative maintenance schedules.
- Read and interpret technical drawings and follow work instructions accurately.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and safety at all times.
- Qualified Tool, Jig and Die Maker (passed recognised trade test).
- Strong expertise in plastics toolmaking (plastic injection moulds essential).
- Proven experience in plastic mould maintenance and repair.
- Minimum 5â8 yearsâ relevant industry experience.
- At least 3 yearsâ hands-on experience in mould repair techniques.
- Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
