Description:
A major insurance company is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to take responsibility for the integrity, accuracy, and completeness of financial reporting across a cluster of entities. This role supports the Financial Manager in overseeing the finance function and plays a critical part in ensuring strong financial governance, compliance, and high-quality management information to support strategic decision-making.
Responsibilities

Maintain, review, and ensure the accuracy, validity, and completeness of accounting records for a cluster of entities
-
Review primary source documents and ensure compliance with Group policies, procedures, budgets, and levels of authority
-
Perform and review balance sheet reconciliations, including complex accounts and intercompany transactions
-
Review fixed asset registers, payroll information, and supporting documentation
-
Prepare and review calculations for amounts recognised in the accounting records
-
Review and validate work performed by bookkeepers and accountants
-
Prepare and review management accounts, budgets, forecasts, and supporting schedules
-
Develop and maintain management reporting templates and provide executive management information
-
Prepare, review, and validate revenue calculations and inputs used in system-generated revenue
-
Maintain and update summaries of assets under management, including movements
-
Take ownership of weekly and long-term cash flow forecasts and treasury reporting
-
Monitor financial soundness requirements including liquidity, cash holdings, capital adequacy, and solvency
-
Act as a payment releaser and banking platform user when required
-
Review VAT reconciliations, tax computations, income tax returns, and DWT submissions prior to SARS filing
-
Ensure all tax payments are made within prescribed timelines and tax clearance is maintained
-
Address audit queries, provide information to auditors, and prepare annual financial statements
-
Execute and monitor special projects on a day-to-day basis
-
Participate in meetings, contribute to policy and strategy development, and provide technical guidance
-
Communicate complex financial matters and present or train peers and subordinates
-
Escalate issues and provide feedback to the Financial Manager as required
-
Assist in additional finance-related duties as required
Requirements
-
Degree in Accounting or equivalent (BCom or BCompt (Acc))
-
Completed articles with at least 3 years’ experience as an Accountant II, or 10 years’ experience in a bookkeeping or accounting role
-
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices
-
Proficiency in Sage X3, Excel, Outlook, and Word
-
High level of accuracy with strong attention to detail
-
Excellent planning, organising, and time-management skills
-
Strong problem analysis and problem-solving ability
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
-
Methodical, focused, and process-driven approach
-
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
-
Active learner with the ability to adapt to change
-
Willingness to work outside normal office hours when required

Willingness to travel when required
