About the Role
The Pharmacy Manager will oversee and manage the clinical and retail pharmacy operations. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, effective, and ethical delivery of pharmaceutical services in compliance with professional, legal, and regulatory standards.
Key areas of responsibility include clinical support, procurement and stock management, staff leadership, financial oversight, retail pharmacy operations, and quality improvement. The Pharmacy Manager will also act as a liaison between the Clinical Pharmacist and Medical Practitioners to promote patient-centred care and collaboration. This position forms part of the Senior Management Team.
Minimum Requirements:
- BPharm Degree or equivalent + SAPC registration.
- 10+ years relevant pharmacy experience, of which 5 years in a managerial role.
- Experience in hospital and retail pharmacy would be advantageous.
- In-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical legislation, GPP, and clinical best practices.
- Strong proficiency in pharmacy and stock management systems.
- Solid financial management and budgeting experience.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal abilities.
Duties include but is not limited to:
- Operational Management
- Oversee day-to-day operations of both clinical and retail pharmacy departments.
- Ensure efficient workflow and optimal service delivery.
- Develop, implement, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Uphold high standards in record-keeping, dispensing accuracy, and medication safety.
- Clinical and Pharmaceutical Care
- Lead the Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) programme in collaboration with the Clinical Pharmacist.
- Promote rational, evidence-based use of antimicrobials among doctors, nurses, and pharmacists.
- Oversee AMS monitoring, audits, reporting, and training.
- Support ethical formulary management and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Procurement and Inventory Control
- Manage procurement, ordering, and stock control
- Oversee GRV and central stores, ensuring proper stock distribution.
- Implement FEFO (First-Expiry-First-Out) practices and conduct regular audits.
- Ensure compliance with cold chain and controlled substance requirements.
- Manage credit notes, return, and stock packs for nursing units.
