Description:
Key Responsibilities:- Lead the end-to-end mechanical design of composite components, from concept to production release.
- Develop detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, and engineering drawings to industry standards.
- Select appropriate composite materials, lay-up strategies, and manufacturing processes (e.g., prepreg, RTM, filament winding, and vacuum infusion).
- Perform structural analysis and optimization of composite designs using FEA tools.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and materials engineering teams to ensure design feasibility and production efficiency.
- Support prototype builds, testing campaigns, and performance validation activities.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to Junior Engineers.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, design best practices, and material innovation.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelors or Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in mechanical design within the composites industry (aerospace, automotive, marine, sporting goods, industrial, etc.).
- Strong proficiency in CAD software (e.g., CATIA, Siemens NX, SolidWorks, and Creo).
- Solid understanding of composite material behaviour, laminate theory, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with FEA tools (ANSYS, Abaqus, HyperWorks or similar) for composite structures.
- Excellent knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and industry standards.
- Strong project leadership skills and the ability to manage complex design tasks.
- Excellent communication and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills.
