Description:

My client (FMCG) is seeking an experienced and hands-on Line Supervisor: Oil Filling, Packing Plant, based in the West Rand area




Duties and Responsibilities:



Ensure plant compliance and governance of Food Safety & Quality systems




  • Ensure plant compliance and governance of Food Safety and Quality systems (FSMS, AIB, FSSC 22000

  • Maintain and enforce Food Safety policies, PRPs and behaviour-based food safety culture

  • Perform daily plant inspections to ensure cleanliness and compliance with food safety and quality standards

  • Oversee housekeeping standards and coordinate cleaning teams for prompt resolution

  • Conduct internal pest management responsibilities

  • Monitor, maintain and continuously improve the Food Safety Management System

  • Conduct forklift inspection record verifications and report discrepancies

  • Enforce change initiatives and controls in preparation for audits and closure of findings

  • Conduct inspections of plant grounds and facilities for health, safety, food and environmental compliance

  • Close out NCRs timeously

  • Maintain Food Safety and OHS records for all plant machinery

  • Ensure all food safety and quality registers, checklists and documentation are accurately completed, filed and audit-ready for traceability purposes


Ensure plant compliance to Environment, Health and Safety regulations




  • Ensure monthly inspections are conducted by Health & Safety representatives

  • Enforce compliance with all SHE policies, procedures and legal requirements

  • Compile and review periodic risk assessments

  • Conduct regular fire prevention inspections

  • Ensure safety signage and notices are displayed in all plant areas

  • Verify machinery is safe and operational and initiate maintenance per OHS requirements

  • Enforce adherence to Environmental, Health & Safety policies and PRPs at all times

  • Maintain plant emergency evacuation plans

  • Manage accident and incident investigations

  • Compile and submit monthly OHS reports

  • Submit and close Enablon findings

  • Conduct job observations on high-risk activities and provide feedback

  • Chair quarterly safety meetings with safety representatives and line management

  • Conduct toolbox talks


Production supervision and Plant Maintenance:




  • Plan, schedule, assign, inspect, record and administrate production operations

  • Manage CCPs and OPRPs, report deviations and implement corrective actions with Production Manager

  • Generate work orders and issue work permits

  • Coordinate fault finding and maintenance activities

  • Capture and update downtime and OEE data daily

  • Coordinate preventative maintenance of packing lines to improve OEE

  • Ensure production efficiency, cost control and product compliance with specifications

  • Address operational issues proactively and adapt to changing requirements

  • Reconcile critical spares to prevent unplanned downtime

  • Create MDG codes for production items

  • Inspect and verify operator maintenance records

  • Report packing line compliance levels to management

  • Ensure suppliers, contractors and consultants comply with all group policies and procedures


Employee Supervision & Contractor Coordination




  • Ensure employee and contractor compliance with policies and procedures

  • Ensure all legal appointments fulfill assigned duties

  • Coordinate Food Safety and Health & Safety training

  • Correct and update employee timesheets

  • Identify, resolve and escalate operational and people-related issues

  • Resolve conflicting requirements and escalate where necessary

  • Counsel employees and initiate disciplinary action for misconduct or poor performance when required


Minimum Requirements:



Education and Experience:




  • Diploma in Food Technology or Industrial Engineering

  • Certificate in Quality Management will be advantageous

  • 3 years' post qualification production experience, of which 1 should be in a supervisory/ coordinating capacity

  • Experience in food manufacturing industry

  • Active involvement in internal and external audits i.e.Food Safety, EHS, Quality


Knowledge and Skills:




  • Production plant and production principles

  • EHS and Food Safety systems

  • Plant equipment and hazards

  • Relevant processes, systems, policies and procedures

  • Risk management

  • Interpersonal skills

  • Computer literate
