My client is seeking a meticulous and proactive Payroll Controller to take ownership of the entire payroll function. The ideal candidate will be detail-driven, knowledgeable in payroll legislation, and committed to ensuring accurate, compliant and timely payments to all staff.This role is based in Johannesburg East.
Key Responsibilities:
Payroll Processing & Administration
Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll for all stores in full compliance with company policies and labour legislation. Review payroll submissions and supporting documents to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to internal standards. Conduct weekly and monthly pay runs, generate reports, issue payslips, and maintain secure system backups. Maintain employee data within the payroll system, including onboarding, updates, transfers, and terminations. Leave & Claims Management
Oversee and administer the full leave management process, ensuring correct processing, monitoring, and reporting. Capture employee expense claims and EFT payments accurately and timeously. Payment & File Management
Upload EFT files for monthly salary payments. Submit payslips, distribute reports, and handle payroll-related queries promptly. Statutory Reporting & Compliance
Process annual salary increases and bonuses in line with legislation and collective agreements. Submit monthly statutory returns such as UIF. Prepare and submit EMP201 via SARS e-Filing, and assist with bi-annual EMP501 reconciliations. Handle annual COID/WCA submissions and payments. Financial Reporting & Third-Party Administration
Prepare payroll reports for mid-month and month-end deadlines. Compile schedules and ensure timely processing of third-party payments including pension/provident funds, unions, and garnishees. Maintain comprehensive records of all external transactions and payments. Process statutory deductions and employee benefit contributions accurately while ensuring full compliance with HR policies and legal requirements. Liaise with retirement fund and medical aid administrators, manage fund administration including onboarding and withdrawals. General Finance Responsibilities
Prepare monthly journals and reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts. Ensure all payroll documentation is securely filed with supporting evidence for audit requirements. Perform additional ad-hoc duties as required.
Job Experience and Skills Required:
Diploma in Finance or Payroll-related. 5 years proven experience in payroll administration. VIP Premier system
