Description:
Main Purpose: To do machining, fitting, turning and repairing as well as stripping, lapping and assembling of different types of valves.
Key Performance Areas:
- Manufacture components with machining equipment in Workshop.
- Adhere to general housekeeping rules, understand and follow safe working procedures of the machines and wear safety equipment (PPE).
- Identify quality issues and report accordingly.
- Follow relevant work instructions, processes and procedures as issued.
- Adhere to company policies, procedures and Health and Safety principles.
- Ensure all equipment is in good working condition.
- Ensure that any repair/refurbishment work to be done is documented on a QCP and that steps are adhered to.
- Provide technical support to management and supervisors – taking note of any defects and required repairs.
- Conduct task and continuous risk assessment for all work to be performed.
- Perform work of high quality within specified time schedules and in accordance with statutory and the company’s standards.
- Machining, drilling, lapping, cleaning, dismantling, assembly, pressure testing, measuring and inspections as per procedures, standards and best practice.
- Ensure equipment is calibrated and fit for use.
- Ensure any valve/vessel/equipment to be worked on is tagged and stamped and receiving inspection has been done prior to executing any work.
- Drive continuous improvement and efficiency in the work area.
- Perform abovementioned duties on client sites and in the BIA workshop as required.
- Any other job-related duties as required from time to time.
Skills:
- Ability to work co-operatively with a team.
- Able to read, write and communicate in English.
- Must have sober habits.
- Able to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines.
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade12/N3.
- Qualified Fitter and Turner
- 5 Years’ Fitter and Turner experience.
- Experience in measuring with Vernier’s, micrometers, thread gauges etc.
- Experience in using a Lathe and Milling Machine as well as drilling machines.
- Experience in drafting materials list and simple sketched and or drawings.
- Experience in doing routine maintenance and attend to mechanical break downs when required.
- Experience in stripping, lapping and assembly of all different types of valves.
- Good understanding of technical drawings.
- Be medically fit and able to pass medical examination.
- Own transport will be an advantage.
- Able to work overtime as and when required.
- Must be computer literate.
