Merchandiser position with a household textiles and manufacturing company, based in Jacobs, Durban.
Purpose of Role:
A Merchandiser in a company plays a crucial role in coordinating between different departments (production, design, quality, buying, etc.) to ensure the timely and cost-effective delivery of products.
Below are the key functions and responsibilities :
1. Product Development
· Coordinate with designers and buyers to understand product specifications.
· Source appropriate fabrics, trims, and accessories.
· Develop samples based on buyer requirements.
· Manage sample approval processes.
2. Costing and Pricing
· Prepare detailed cost sheets (including fabric, trims, labour, overhead).
· Ensure target margins are achieved.
3. Order Management
· Receive and confirm purchase orders from buyers.
· Plan and monitor order execution from start to finish.
4. Production Coordination
· Follow up with production teams to ensure timely completion.
5. Sourcing and Procurement
· Source fabrics, trims, and accessories from local and international vendors.
· Manage procurement timelines to align with production deadlines.
6. Communication and Coordination
· Act as the main point of contact between buyers and the production unit.
· Maintain regular communication with buyers regarding sample approvals, order updates, and shipment status.
· Liaise with shipping/logistics for on-time delivery.
7. Documentation and Reporting
· Maintain order tracking sheets and production status reports.
· Prepare TNA (Time and Action) calendars.
· Document all approvals, communications, and shipments for recordkeeping.
9. Market and Trend Analysis
· Keep updated with fashion trends and market requirements.
· Assist in developing seasonal collections or proposals for buyers.
10. Post-Production Support
· Handle rejections, returns, or buyer complaints.
· Coordinate for replacements or repairs as needed.
