Purpose of the Role

Please note this is for a project based in Tanzania for an 11 week project. The SHE Officer will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all relevant health, safety, environmental, standards on site. The role requires strong leadership in driving continuous improvement, risk management, and ensuring legal and client-specific compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct workplace inspections, audits, and issue-based risk assessments.
  • Develop and facilitate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Safe Work Procedures (SWPs).
  • Ensure compliance with OHS Act, NEMA, COID, BCEA any other relevant legislation, standard and site-specific requirements.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, and implement corrective actions.
  • Report all SHE incidents, accidents, and near misses to management, clients, and relevant statutory bodies as required by legislation.
  • Coordinate medical surveillance, first aid arrangements, and occupational health initiatives.
  • Monitor environmental compliance (waste, water, air, spill control, sustainability).
  • Provide SHE inductions, toolbox talks, and awareness training.
  • Maintain SHE documentation, records, and training matrices.
  • Support emergency preparedness and conduct drills.
  • Promote a positive SHE culture through leadership and communication.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Safety, Health, Environment, or Quality Management.
    • Competency certificate in Incident Investigation
    • SACPCMP Registered
    • Minimum of 2 years experience as Safety Officer
    • Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and South African SHE legislation.
    • Strong report writing and communication skills.
    • Computer literacy (MS Office).
