Description:
Purpose of Job:The Procurement Officer is responsible to purchase materials, equipment and services essential to support mining operations. The incumbent will ensure cost-effective procurement, continuity of supply, quality, and timely delivery.
Responsibilities
Purchase materials, equipment, tools, and services in line with cost, quality and delivery targets.
Manage the end-to-end procurement process, including identifying needs and overseeing vendor compliance.
Ensure that all procurement activities comply with company policies, industry regulations, and safety standards.
Negotiate contracts, favourable terms, pricing and delivery with suppliers.
Monitor supplier performance and resolve any issues related to quality, delays, or discrepancies.
Conduct price comparisons and identify new potential suppliers and assess their capabilities to meet operational needs.
Establish preferred suppliers based on quality of products and/or services, considering service delivery and price.
Analyse market trends and commodity prices to make informed purchasing decisions.
Monitor and track purchase orders and delivery schedules to minimise downtime and ensure smooth operations.
Review and negotiate contracts with suppliers to ensure compliance.
Ensure all procurement documents are appropriately documented and stored according to company standards.
Act as an interface between suppliers and other departments on purchasing processes, new projects, and activities.
Work closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to understand their requirements and needs.
Co-ordinate with the Finance Department to manage orders and payments and offer general administrative support.
Prepare reports and updates as needed, including cost analyses and supplier performance data.
Continuously review opportunities for continuous improvement.
Adhere to all health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.
Requirements:
Qualifications:Grade 12 Certificate
Degree/Diploma in Purchasing, Supply Chain Management or a relevant commercial qualification
Technical/Managerial skills
Ability to independently manage workload and deadlines.
Ability to manage time effectively, prioritise tasks and achieve set targets.
Well-developed organisational skills.
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Uphold integrity, openness, and honesty in all dealings.
Physical/Legal Requirements

Driver’s license
Experience:
Essential:
5 years’ experience relevant in the mining, manufacturing or industrial sectors.
Strong experience in supplier negotiations, managing purchase orders, and dealing with supply chain logistics.
Proven track record with an integrated Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
Experience in Sage 300 ERP.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office packages.
Advantageous:
Knowledge of mining operations and the specific procurement needs of the industry.
