Job Title: Engineering Manager

Location: South Africa

A leading Food and Manufacturing company is looking for an experienced Engineering Manager with strong experience in/with plant maintenance, process engineering, project management, and legal compliance (GMR 2.1) to join their team in South Africa. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated engineering leader to drive operational excellence and innovation by leading a team, optimizing plant maintenance, and managing strategic projects. Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers and maintenance staff, fostering a culture of mutual respect and continuous improvement.
  • Manage and report on engineering KPIs, ensuring projects and operations remain within defined CAPEX/OPEX budgets.
  • Play a key role in the compilation of long-term maintenance and capital expenditure plans.
  • Serve as a bridge between executive leadership and the operational team, ensuring transparent communication and alignment on company goals.
  • Act as a risk assessment facilitator and ensure the plant's full compliance with all statutory and regulatory conditions, including the General Machinery Regulations (GMR 2.1).
  • Drive efficiency and process improvements and manage engineering change.
  • Manage complex projects from conception to completion, including installation, commissioning, and handover of new equipment.
  • Ensure full adherence to critical legal and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure a seamless transition from planning to execution.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a similar engineering management role in FMCG companies, with a strong track record of success in a production environment.
  • Qualified Mechanical Engineer with a Certificate of Competency (GCC).
  • Proven track record as a GMR 2.1 appointee.
  • Experience with ISO 9001/14001, HSEQ, and other legal compliance frameworks.
  • Experience in managing CAPEX/OPEX budgets and reporting on KPIs.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and collaboration skills.
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented with a passion for continuous improvement.
