Job Title: Construction Manager

Location: Gauteng, Johannesburg Metro, Johannesburg

Job Type: 4 month Contract, expected to work full-time hours

Primary Industry: Construction

Job Duties:

1. Project Planning & Coordination


  • Develop detailed construction plans and schedules.
  • Define project scope, timelines, resources, and cost estimates.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, quantity surveyors, and clients.
  • Ensure all permits, contracts, and legal requirements are in place.

2. Team Management


  • Hire, lead, and manage site supervisors, foremen, subcontractors, and tradespeople.
  • Assign responsibilities and monitor performance.
  • Resolve labour or subcontractor issues.

3. Budget & Cost Control


  • Monitor project budgets and expenses.
  • Approve purchase orders and manage procurement.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.

4. Progress Monitoring


  • Track progress against the project timeline.
  • Adjust schedules to account for delays or unexpected issues.
  • Report regularly to stakeholders on status and risks.

5. Health, Safety & Compliance


  • Ensure the site meets all health and safety standards.
  • Conduct audits and manage risk assessments.
  • Implement corrective actions if there are compliance issues.

6. Quality Assurance


  • Ensure construction work meets specified standards and client expectations.
  • Conduct site inspections and sign off on milestones.
  • Handle snag lists and ensure proper project handover

Education:


  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field
  • SACPCMP

Experience:

Minimum of 8 years of experience in construction management

Knowledge and Skills:


  • Proficiency in project management software
  • Understanding of budgeting and financial management
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Understanding of construction drawings, materials, and methods.
  • Knowledge of construction law and safety regulations.
  • Experience in supervising teams and coordinating trades
  • Proven experience as a construction manager or similar role
  • Strong knowledge of construction processes, methods, and materials
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and plans
  • Good problem-solving and decision-making abilities
