Description:

A well-established law firm in Bellville is seeking to appoint a Road Accident Fund Secretary with proven experience in RAF matters. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive legal secretarial support to attorneys handling personal injury litigation, specifically Road Accident Fund (RAF) claims. This role requires a highly organised individual with an excellent understanding of litigation processes and the ability to work under pressure within a fast-paced legal environment.

Responsibilities:

· Prepare RAF files for settlement by compiling all necessary documentation and following up on outstanding items

· Draft and submit settlement proposals to the Road Accident Fund

· Communicate with claims handlers and senior RAF officials to follow up on matters and offers

· Schedule and manage expert appointments, obtain medico-legal reports, and coordinate joint minutes

· Liaise with correspondent attorneys regarding settlement offers and client instructions

· Draft acceptance letters and affidavits, and ensure all documentation is signed and commissioned

· Maintain a tracking system for all RAF matters, outstanding items, and key contact points

· Type emails and formal letters to clients, correspondents, and defendant attorneys based on dictation

· Prepare and distribute memos of instruction to relevant team members

· Request documentation, reports, and invoices from clients, attorneys, and advocates

· Brief advocates for legal opinions, referrals, and recommendations

· Draft legal notices and affidavits

· Instruct corresponding attorneys to uplift court files, issue summonses, and file amendments

· Draft and manage client consultation forms

· Arrange consultations with existing and prospective clients

· Open new client files and update internal systems

· Capture monthly fees and work on AJS

· Book accommodation and transportation for clients or staff

· Manage incoming and outgoing calls

· Send follow-up emails and track responses on client matters

· Print, scan, and electronically save legal and client documents

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in RAF claims support (within a law firm)
  • Strong working knowledge of RAF procedures and court filing requirements
  • Ability to handle multiple files with accuracy and efficiency
  • Familiarity with legal software (e.g. GhostPractice, LegalSuite, AJS)
  • Strong admin and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Requirements:
