Our client in the transport industry has the following position available for a candidate with excellent observation, analytical, and problem-solving skills to join their dynamic team:
HEALTH & SAFETY OFFICER
UPINGTON
Requirements:
- Diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety with at least 4 years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably within the Transport or Mine Industry.
- Training and Certification in First Aid & Firefighting.
- Practical experience in implementing health and safety policies, procedures, and systems with proven ability to conduct risk assessments.
- Ability to identify hazards, assess risks, and propose mitigating strategies.
- In-depth knowledge of OHS legislation, related regulations, and risk management principles.
- Strong communication and training abilities.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
- Driver’s license and a valid passport
- Willing to travel for audits and training when needed
Responsibilities will include:
- Coordinate all actions related to Health and Safety as the companies Health and Safety Official
- Ensure that all health and safety rules are conformed to as stated by the applicable Health and Safety Act
- Investigation of incidents/accidents, near misses, unsafe working conditions and IOD’s, and compiling and notification of such reports
- Monitor and enforce compliance with health and safety laws, regulations, and internal policies
- Conduct site inspections, risk assessment and safety audits
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training, incidents, and audits
- Keep up to date with legislative changes and industry best practices
- Lead and deliver safety inductions, toolbox talks, and ongoing training
- Draft and update safety files
- Liaise with management and stakeholders to ensure alignment on safety standards
- All Health and Safety related administration tasks
