Description:
A leading wealth management firm is seeking a dynamic and strategic Managing Director to take the helm of its investment division. This individual will oversee a portfolio of investment management entities and drive high-level performance, regulatory compliance, and long-term strategic alignment across all functions. The role requires a seasoned leader with a strong financial background, advanced investment qualifications, and a proven ability to manage multidisciplinary teams in a complex regulatory environment.Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership

Define and implement the division’s strategic direction in line with group-wide goals.

Ensure investment offerings are aligned across entities and tailored to meet evolving market and client needs.

Foster inter-company collaboration and integration across the investment landscape.
2. Operational Management

Lead the daily operations and management teams across investment portfolio management, operations, and support functions.

Ensure the division meets its performance benchmarks and client service standards.

Drive organizational development and maintain a high-performance culture.
3. People Leadership
-
Inspire, develop, and manage senior leadership and operational teams.

Embed a culture of accountability, integrity, and continuous development.

Promote diversity, inclusion, and employment equity practices throughout the division.

Ensure effective succession planning and leadership pipeline development.
4. Financial Oversight
-
Prepare and manage the division’s annual budget.

Oversee financial performance, ensuring resources are optimally allocated.

Collaborate closely with the finance team to maintain profitability and growth.
5. Product and Distribution Strategy
-
Work with sales and marketing teams to develop and promote new investment products and solutions.
-
Analyze and improve distribution channels and client engagement strategies.
-
Ensure product offerings are risk-aligned and meet compliance requirements.
6. Technology and Systems
-
Champion the use of technology and systems to support business efficiency and investment decision-making.
-
Ensure alignment with group IT and security policies.
-
Oversee the implementation and continuous improvement of operational systems.
7. Regulatory Compliance
-
Maintain regulatory fit and proper status, including Key Individual designation for Category II investment products.
-
Ensure adherence to applicable laws and regulations, including FAIS, FICA, POPIA, and others.
-
Collaborate closely with the group’s compliance function to ensure robust governance across all entities.

Embed a culture focused on the fair treatment of clients.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education & Certifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field (mandatory).
-
Advanced investment qualification is mandatory , such as:
-
Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)
-
Certified Financial Planner (CFP)
-
Or an equivalent recognized investment management designation
-
-
Fluency in both English and Afrikaans is required.
Experience
-
Minimum of 12 years of experience within the financial services sector.

Demonstrated success in a senior executive or leadership role within an investment management environment.

Strong background in managing diverse teams and multi-entity operations.
