Diesel Mechanic Olifantsfontein Gauteng
Job Purpose:
To inspect, diagnose, repair, service, and maintain heavy-duty diesel-powered trucks and trailers according to manufacturer and safety standards.
? Key Responsibilities:
Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting on diesel engines, transmissions, braking systems, electrical systems, and drivetrains. Service and repair trucks (e.g., Freightliner, Volvo, Scania, MAN, Mercedes-Benz). Conduct preventative maintenance and scheduled services. Perform safety inspections and roadworthiness checks. Repair and replace defective parts, components, and systems. Use diagnostic tools and software to assess and fix problems. Maintain accurate service records and job cards. Follow health and safety protocols and workplace procedures. Liaise with workshop managers, parts departments, and sometimes clients.? Skills & Competencies:
Strong mechanical and technical skills. Ability to interpret technical manuals and diagnostic codes. Proficiency in using hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and machinery. Good problem-solving and analytical skills. Communication skills (verbal and written). Time management and ability to work under pressure. Physical fitness and ability to work in various conditions.? Qualifications & Requirements:
Red Seal Certification as a Diesel Mechanic (national trade test passed). Minimum 3–5 year’s experience working on trucks or heavy-duty diesel vehicles. Valid driver’s license (Code 10/14 often required). Own tools (sometimes required). PDP (Professional Driving Permit) – sometimes required for field work. Advantageous: OEM training (Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, MAN, Scania, etc.)? Working Conditions:
Monday to Friday, occasional overtime or standby work. Workshop-based, field service, or long-distance breakdown support. Exposure to noise, grease, oil, and heavy lifting.
