Description:
A leading manufacturing company in Honeydew, Gauteng, is seeking an experienced Buyer to join their dynamic procurement team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a detail-oriented and proactive professional to contribute to the efficient sourcing and purchasing of raw materials, maintenance spares, and production-related goods. The ideal candidate will ensure timely procurement aligned with production schedules, manage supplier relationships, and maintain strict compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Source and purchase raw materials, packaging, maintenance spares, and production-related goods.
- Raise purchase orders on ERP systems such as SAP, Odoo, or Syspro.
- Ensure procurement aligns with production schedules and stock levels.
- Maintain accurate records of orders, delivery dates, and supplier terms.
- Identify, assess, and develop reliable suppliers.
- Negotiate prices, payment terms, and contracts to achieve best value.
- Monitor supplier performance, including quality, cost, and delivery metrics.
- Resolve supplier non-conformance issues and late deliveries promptly.
- Monitor stock levels and reorder proactively to avoid shortages or overstocking.
- Track procurement costs and identify opportunities for savings.
- Coordinate with stores/warehouses on incoming goods and inventory management.
- Ensure all procurement activities comply with company policies, B-BBEE requirements, and regulatory standards.
- Maintain accurate procurement data within ERP systems.
- Support internal and external audit processes as required.
- Collaborate closely with production, quality, finance, and engineering teams.
- Provide input on forecasting, planning, and new product development initiatives.
Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain Management, Purchasing, Logistics, or a related field.
- CIPS or SAPICS certification is advantageous.
- 3–5 years’ experience as a Buyer in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of ERP systems (SAP, Syspro, Odoo, etc.).
- Experience working with technical drawings/specifications is a plus.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Good understanding of supply chain and inventory management principles.
