Description:
Join a leading South African boutique stockbroking and private wealth firm based in East London (Eastern Cape) as a Portfolio Manager specialising in listed equities . This is a buy-side, discretionary role managing local and offshore share portfolios for private clients.
We’re looking for someone with strong equity valuation skills , a proven track record, and the drive to build and grow a book of business. Be part of a dynamic team, contribute to investment committee decisions, and work directly with clients and advisors.
Portfolio management:
o Manage and grow a discretionary book of client equity portfolios.
o Provide tailored investment advice, implement trades, and communicate proactively with clients.
o Engage with internal and external referring advisors to build strong client relationships.
o Construct and manage portfolios in line with the firm’s investment philosophy and client mandates.
o Participate in the Investment Committee, contributing to model portfolio construction and equity research.
o Continuously research and monitor local and global listed equities and macroeconomic trends.
Reports and Compliance:
o Review and action daily system reports.
o Contribute to market updates and investment commentary.
o Maintain model portfolios and assist with SARB reporting when required.
o Ensure compliance with the JSE Equities Rules, FICA, the Financial Markets Act, Pension Funds Act, and other relevant legislation.
Other duties and responsibilities:
o Support strategic initiatives and business development projects.
o Attend client events and represent the company professionally at all times.
o Write investment-related articles and thought leadership pieces.
o Assist senior management as required and foster a collaborative team environment.
Requirements:
- Equity Trading: 5 to 6 years
- Financial Analyst: 3 to 4 years
- Share Portfolio Managers: 4 to 5 years
Qualifications and Experience Required
o JSE Equity Trader Exams – required
o RPE Equity Modules – required
o Stockbroking Board Exams / CFA Charterholder or similar – required
o RE1 and RE5 (FAIS) – advantageous
o 5+ years’ experience in financial markets , specifically listed equities
o Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills
Candidates without the Stockbroking board exams may be considered if they have strong valuation and equity portfolio construction experience , with a commitment to complete the relevant exams within defined timelines
