Description:

Our client in the Pharmaceutical and Medical/Healthcare sector is seeking a Unit Manager to lead operations within a theatre setting. The role involves overseeing surgical theatre staff and day-to-day activities, while providing clinical leadership, managing resources effectively, and ensuring high standards of patient care within the operating environment

Minimum Requirements:

  • Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse
  • Post-basic qualification in Operating Theatre Technique
  • Minimum of 5 years’ operational experience in a theatre environment
  • Scrub experience in Cardiothoracic, Neurosurgery, and/or Ophthalmology (advantageous)
  • Previous experience in a leadership or management role (advantageous)
  • Sound knowledge of legislative, Occupational Health and Safety regulations
  • Valid driver’s licence with flexibility to travel and work after hours (own transport required)
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and participate in an after-hours roster

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide both operational and administrative leadership within the theatre
  • Manage and support theatre staff, ensuring effective communication and coordination with surgeons
  • Enforce compliance with hospital policies, labour legislation, and disciplinary procedures
  • Oversee staff planning, recruitment, and selection
  • Resolve daily operational challenges and patient-related concerns
  • Ensure proper stock and equipment management, including usage tracking and ordering
  • Monitor accurate billing for theatre stock
  • Maintain infection control protocols and uphold health and safety standards
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of the theatre environment
  • Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports
  • Lead ad hoc projects and assist in implementing performance improvement strategies

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organisational, and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to manage nursing standards, conduct in-service training, and ensure continuous staff development

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Kronos System
  • Strong focus on continuous quality improvement initiatives
  • Upholds a professional image and high ethical standards
