Description:

  • A reputable insurance company is looking to appoint a
Senior Bookkeeper to support its finance team based in Bellville. This role is ideal for a detail-driven individual with solid bookkeeping experience in the insurance or financial services sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing financial records, managing reconciliations, supporting reporting requirements, and ensuring financial accuracy and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Process supplier and customer invoices, credit notes, statements, and payments

  • Perform bank, supplier, and account reconciliations

  • Maintain and update the fixed asset register, including tagging and verification

  • Post routine journal entries and ensure alignment with supporting documentation

  • File and archive all financial records according to company policy

  • Assist with VAT, PAYE, and income tax return submissions for relevant entities

  • Prepare daily bank and cash reports and coordinate payment schedules

  • Support the preparation of cash flow forecasts and management reports

  • Assist with intercompany schedules and confirmations

  • Participate in audit preparation by providing required schedules and documentation

  • Attend meetings and apply relevant accounting policies and practices

  • Support ad hoc finance projects and collaborate with the team as needed


Requirements
  • Grade 12 with Accounting

  • Certificate or Diploma in Bookkeeping or Accounting (or equivalent)

  • 5 to 7 years of relevant bookkeeping/accounting experience

  • Minimum 2 years in a senior bookkeeping role (Bookkeeper II or similar)

  • Must work currently in an insurance company or large wealth management environment

  • Solid knowledge of accounting principles

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

  • Proficient in Sage X3, Excel, Outlook, and Word

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills

  • Analytical thinker with problem-solving ability

  • Effective communicator

  • Able to work well under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Reliable, methodical, and quality-driven

  • Strong team player and quick learner

  • Willing to work overtime when needed
