A well-established and reputable insurance company is seeking an experienced Commercial Underwriter (Underwriter III) to join its team in Bryanston. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in underwriting commercial risks, including the ability to assess and price risk, apply underwriting guidelines, and support the delivery of quality client service. This role suits a dynamic individual looking to grow within a professional and fast-paced environment.Responsibilities
Underwriting Operations

Issue new policies, renewals, and endorsements on the C360 System

Prepare new business quotes
-
Underwrite in accordance with standards, policies, and procedures
-
Support the sales team in acquiring and retaining profitable business
-
Attend to administration and written communication
-
Ensure all documentation is accurate and properly authorised before dispatch
-
Resolve queries in line with service standards
-
Negotiate renewal terms and prepare renewal documentation
-
Complete renewal reviews and calculate retentions
-
Request and monitor survey requirements as per procedures
-
Address unprofitable or overexposed policies
-
Check all policies before sending to clients
-
Maintain accurate electronic records
-
Handle inbound client calls for queries, amendments, or additional cover
Client Service & Communication

Maintain service, quality, and output within defined processes and standards

Resolve escalated client queries and complaints
-
Provide feedback on resolved matters
-
Develop work routines aligned with operational plans to meet service goals

Share knowledge and assist in standardising procedures
Team Collaboration

Share product, process, and systems knowledge with colleagues

Work closely with the underwriting team to ensure service level targets are met

Requirements

Matric (Grade 12)
-
NQF Level 5 in Short-Term Insurance
-
Regulatory Exam Level 1 (RE5)
-
Commercial Lines Class of Business
-
DOFA confirmation (from FSCA)
Experience
-
Minimum 5 years of relevant commercial underwriting experience
-
Prior experience with binding authority
-
Cardinal 360 system experience is advantageous
