Duties and Responsibilities:Installation and Configuration:Install and configure PABX systems, VoIP systems, handsets, and cabling.Set up phone extensions, voicemail, call forwarding, IVR, and automated attendants.Program and maintain digital/analogue/IP PABX systems (e.g., Panasonic, NEC, Avaya, Siemens, Alcatel-Lucent).Maintenance and Support:Perform routine maintenance, firmware upgrades, and backups.Troubleshoot and resolve hardware/software faults.Respond to service tickets and on-site technical support requests.Testing and Troubleshooting:Conduct line tests to identify faulty wiring or devices.Diagnose problems with phone lines, handsets, and other telephony equipment.Replace or repair defective parts.Networking and Integration:Integrate PABX with LAN/WAN networks, voice gateways, and SIP trunks.Work with IT teams to ensure connectivity and compatibility with other systems.Configure QoS for VoIP traffic if needed.Documentation and Reporting:Maintain logs of repairs, configurations, and service history.Produce technical documentation for installed systems.Prepare and present reports on system performance and upgrades.Client Interaction and Training:Train users on system features and usage.Provide after-sales support and answer client queries.Advise clients on system upgrades and capacity planning.Health & Safety Compliance:Adhere to safety protocols while handling cabling and electrical equipment.Ensure installations meet regulatory and quality standards. Qualifications and Experience:Minimum Qualifications:
- National Senior Certificate (Matric).
- Technical diploma or certificate in Telecommunications, Electronics, or IT.
- Vendor certifications (advantageous):
- Panasonic, Siemens, Alcatel-Lucent, NEC, Avaya, Mitel, etc.
- 2–5 years hands-on experience in PABX installation, maintenance, and support.
- Knowledge of VoIP, SIP, and TCP/IP networking.
- Experience with structured cabling and patch panels.
- Strong technical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Understanding of telephony systems (analogue, digital, IP).
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and technical manuals.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Time management and ability to work under pressure.
- Valid driver’s license (often required for on-site work).
