Role: Bookkeeper
Location: Sandton, Johannesburg
Type: Part-Time (with potential for two additional part-time roles with other clients)

Job Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper with strong proficiency in Xero , ideally with experience supporting US-based clients. This is a part-time position based in Sandton, Johannesburg, with the potential to take on additional part-time roles with other clients. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with US accounting standards, and delivering high-quality bookkeeping services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of financial transactions in Xero
  • Perform regular bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable processes
  • Prepare and issue client invoices
  • Monitor cash flow and assist with budgeting
  • Process payroll or coordinate with payroll providers, as needed
  • Prepare financial reports including Profit & Loss, Balance Sheets, and Aged Receivables/Payables
  • Ensure compliance with US GAAP and tax regulations
  • Communicate effectively with US-based clients and address queries promptly
  • Support month-end and year-end closing procedures
  • Liaise with external accountants for audits or tax submissions

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a bookkeeper, preferably with US clients
  • Proficient in Xero (certification preferred)
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and tax requirements
  • Advanced skills in Excel or Google Sheets
  • High attention to detail and strong organisational abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Comfortable working in a remote/cloud-based setup

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Xero Advisor Certification
  • Experience with tools such as Dext , Hubdoc , or Gusto (US payroll)
  • Background in a BPO, outsourced accounting firm, or finance environment
  • Flexibility to work across time zones, especially US EST/PST

Working Hours:

  • Part-time, with flexible scheduling
  • Availability to overlap with US business hours is essential, particularly during reporting periods
